One of the key benefits of the iCabbi Taxi 360 Platform is our open API. Our policy is to focus on developing our core products of Dispatch Engine and Management, Driver App, Passenger App, our Voice IVR & Phone system, and iCabbi Insights which provides detailed analytics and reporting on the performance of your taxi business. However, we’re very aware that there are many more technological requirements for running a successful taxi business than these products alone. We want our customers to run successful taxi businesses, obviously! We, therefore, welcome and actively encouraged to enhance their taxi platform with API integrations and development.

In this article, I’m going to share the 3 key approaches to using iCabbi APIs to enhance your taxi business. Nut first, let’s make sure we are on the same page… what exactly is an API and what do iCabbi customers use them for?

What is an API?

API stands for Application Program Interface.

An API is used to link one computer system to another. It allows them to communicate with each other and exchange information. iCabbi APIs can send and receive messages, allowing you to either export information from iCabbi to a third party, or to import information such as a booking or mass bookings from a third party system into your iCabbi dispatch platform.

What kind of things can iCabbi customers do with APIs?

The API can be used to enhance your business by helping you to get more bookings, automate tasks, streamline operations, improve customer service or set up custom reports and dashboards. The API is used to add value by either importing information into your platform, or exporting it out. Some examples include:

Importing information:

  • Web bookers
  • Passenger Apps
  • Booking Aggregators
  • NEMT solutions

Exporting Information:

  • Instant messaging alerts e.g. Slack
  • Accountancy software
  • Driver portals
  • Custom reports

The 3 approaches to using iCabbi APIs

1. API Documentation  – DIY with code

Generally speaking, API documentation is technical and is for developers to use. Our interactive documentation assists your developer in understanding our APIs before they start coding. It’s used to create custom functionality like a web booker or mass import of bookings, for example, in a custom NEMT solution. Absolutely anything is possible here – but you do need technical development skills as this is code-based.

2. Scenario-based API using automated workflows  – DIY with no code
